Raymond Scott Milvae, 85, of Lebanon and formerly of Bloomfield, beloved husband of Carol (Albright) Milvae, passed away early Sunday morning (July 24, 2016) at the Wm. W. Backus Hospital in Norwich with his family by his side.

Born in Harford, CT on December 16, 1930, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Scott) Milvae.  Ray was a successful and hard-working business man, having worked for several corporations and as a self-employed entrepreneur.  Over his career, Ray worked with Royal Typewriter, Kaman Aircraft, Hartford Courant, Willimantic Chronicle and Tye Spring.  He was also very involved with his community, as a proud Republican Town Committee member serving on Lebanon’s Board of Selectmen and the Planning and Zoning Commission.  Ray was a longtime member of the Masons and was Past Master of Hiram Lodge #98 A.F. & A.M. in Bloomfield, as well had a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church. Ray was a Justice of the Peace for many years.  He officiated at more weddings than any other JP in Connecticut.  He never charged for his services or accepted any monetary gain for himself, but only requested that donations be made to the Hole in the Wall Gang. Ray’s hobby was woodworking.  He was a master wood craftsman.  He made countless handcrafted items, many of which he donated to others and was subsequently awarded Wayne Norman’s, very first, Rae of Sunshine Award.   Ray will be remembered by his family and many others as a generous and selfless man who cared about everyone he met, his home, community and country.

Left to morn his passing is his wife of 45 years, Carol (Albright) Milvae; brother, Robert and wife, Joan Milvae of Florida and brother-in-law Lawrence Tarca of Wallingford; seven children and their spouses, Raymond and wife, Deborah Milvae of Tolland, Robert Milvae of Mansfield, Jill and husband, Alan Krieger of Tolland, Scott Milvae and wife, Jane Cox of Raleigh, NC, Vicki and husband, Warren Wilson of Sherman, ME, Frank and wife, Janice Shatney of Concord, VT and Michelle and husband, Scott Gerald of Fairfield, ME; 20 grandchildren, by family: Raymond, David, and Michael Milvae, Aurora and Alex Milvae, Chelsea, Joshua, and Kyle Krieger, Grace and Sophia Milvae, Stephen and Sherean Kesheb, Leslie and Robert Fielders, Franklin and Christopher Shatney, Elizabeth Willinski, Daniel, Melissa and Sara Lemik; and numerous extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, William Milvae and several siblings.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday (July 27th) from 4 – 7 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester.  Graveside Services will be observed Thursday (July 28th) at 11 AM directly at the New Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Rd., Lebanon.  Donations in his memory may be made to the Oakhill Institute for the Blind, 120 Holcomb St., Hartford, CT 06112.
