Victor Edward Shovak
April 29, 1932 ~ April 12, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years OldVictor Edward Shovak, 84, of Lebanon and formerly of Vernon, passed away Wednesday (April 12, 2017) at Douglas Manor in Windham. Born April 29, 1932 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Victor F. and Mary (Saucier) Shovak. Mr. Shovak has worked as a machinist for Pratt & Whitney for many years before his retirement. He raised his family in Vernon and starting when his children were young, he enjoyed coaching boys’ youth basketball the 1960’s and 70’s. In his spare time, Victor loved gardening and tending to his flowers. Victor was an dedicated fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the UCONN womens basketball team. Mr. Shovak had been a longtime communicant of the parish of the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford. He leaves his wife, Lorraine (Lavoie) Shovak; three children (and their spouses), Karen (Bob) London of Lebanon, Lynne (Christopher) Karg of Alison Park, PA and John (Nancy) Shovak of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Jessica Castillo, Clayton London and Lauren and Matthew Karg; four great grandchildren, Logan, Stephania and Ethan Castillo and Aubrey London; and a brother, Robert Shovak of Simsbury. Victor was predeceased by a sister, Mary Bronstein; and a brother, Edward Shovak. Graveside Services will be observed 10 AM Holy Saturday (April 15th) directly at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111. Care of arrangements has been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
