MELLO, CYNTHIA E. Cynthia Elaine (Moore) Mello, 70, of Lebanon, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Cindy was born February 9, 1948 in Willimantic, the daughter of Dorothy (Johnson) and Hugh Moore. She graduated Lyman Memorial High School and attended Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA. She married James J. Mello on May 29, 1967. The couple moved to Lebanon in 1969 where they made their home and raised their family. While being a full-time stay-at-home mom raising her three children, Cindy also served for several years as the Children’s Librarian at the Jonathan Trumbull Library in Lebanon. While working as a Technical Analyst at Sonalyst for several years, Cindy finished her college degree, earning her Bachelor in English and Elementary Teacher credentials from Eastern Connecticut State University. She taught first, fourth and eighth grade at Sayles School while earning her Sixth Year degree in Education from ECSU. Cindy also became part of an Intermediate Administration collegium at Sacred Heart University which led her to a becoming an Assistant Principal and Principal at East Haddam Elementary School. She enjoyed a lifetime of serving and anticipating the needs of others. Most importantly, Cindy was lovingly devoted to her family and she will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by her husband of 51 years. She is also survived by two daughters, Lisa E. (Wayne) Handfield of Lebanon, Eileen M. (Matt) Maglio of Lebanon, a son, James A. (Denise) Mello of Steubenville, Ohio and her eight grandchildren: Jim, Nicky, Abi, Joe, Deana, Mari, Josh, and Roman. She is survived by her brother, Austin Moore of Whitefield, Maine; a sister, Linda (Brian) McCall of Dexter, Michigan; and numerous extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her mother Dorothy on December 6, 2005, and her father Hugh on August 12, 1964.
Family and friends will be received at Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester on Wednesday, December 19, from 5: - 6:30 pm followed directly by a Celebration of Life ceremony. Burial will be private in the New Lebanon Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
