He built three homes, one family Summer home at Lake Amston in which many family parties and neighborhood get-togethers took place; his residence on Exeter Road with his wife Inge and his family, as well as a second family Summer get-away in Vermont at Lake Dunmore, where he could be seen relaxing on his dcek over looking the lake with his cup of coffee, his crossword book, and his beloved Golden Retriever – Lena by his side - always enjoying mutual affection for one another. Whether it was sitting on the deck with his crossword taking in the breathtaking sunsets or sitting in the family room in front of the woodstove, he enjoyed being at the lake. He leaves behind his wife Ingeburg of over 65 years, a daughter Anne Marie and husband Philip Wengloski; two sons, William Hesse and lifelong partner Deanna; and John Hesse and wife Ginger; several nieces and nephews, as well as several grandchildren.
