Frank Konopka, 83, of Lebanon, CT passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at Backus Hospital in Norwich. Born on May 15, 1935 in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marcella (Gorniak) Konopka. Frank was predeceased by his sisters, Helen Whitcomb and Stella Bowen. Frank leaves his wife of 61 years, June (Mongeau) Konopka and his three sons, who were his pride and joy, Gerald and James Konopka of Lebanon and Daniel and his wife Tina Konopka of Windham. He also leaves his sister, Katherine Terpilak of Silver Springs, MD; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Frank had a great talent for fixing just about anything that had a motor. He was a self-taught mechanic and for years he had his own business repairing all types of farm equipment, going from farm to farm. Frank retired from the Lebanon Highway Dept. in 1997. Frank loved auto racing. He built the racing motors for two of his sons, Gerald and Daniel, who raced late models for many years. Graveside services will be observed on Saturday, September 29th at 10 am at the New St. Andrew Cemetery, Gillette’s Lane, Colchester. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Dept., Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 51, Lebanon, CT 06249. Care of arrangements has been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
