Frederick Henry Rabideau, Jr., “Tarz”, age 78, of Lebanon, passed away after a sudden illness at Hartford Hospital on August 24, 2019. He was born in Brattleboro, VT on September 11, 1940, a son of the late Frederick and Wilma (Mears) Rabideau. Fred was a proud veteran, having served with the US Navy during the Korean War. In later years, he was a member of the American Legion in Colchester. Fred married his beloved wife, Eva Simpson on December 28, 1963 in Brattleboro, VT. The couple moved to Lebanon, CT soon after, where they made their home and raised their family. Eva predeceased him on June 2, 2008. Fred retired several years ago after a long and successful career as a Sheet Metal Worker for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. He loved listening to country music. He was also an avid outdoors man who loved fishing, hunting, chopping wood or any other outdoor activity. He will be remembered by his family as a reserved and frugal man who had a quiet strength and an enormous heart.
He will be sadly missed, but always remembered with love by his children, Sandra Garnto of Fayettville, NC, Debra Bates of Lebanon, CT, Kim Gilbert of Palm Harbor, FL, Frederick Rabideau III of Lakeland, FL, seven grandchildren, Jamie Garnto, Shawna Patterson, Thomas Garnto, Jr., Joshua Bates, Corey Bates, Jacqueline Gaal, Eva Rabideau; four great grandchildren, Jahmeir Maynor, Avery Garnto, Jamari Maynor, Eva Ella Thompson; four sisters, Geraldine Nadeau of Brattleboro, VT, Donna Powers (Donald) of Hinsdale, NH, Bonnie Harris of Colchester, Becky Vittum (Dale) of Unity, NH; and numerous extended family and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kimberly Ross.
Memorial services will be held at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester, on Saturday, August 31st beginning at 9 am with calling hours, and visitation. A memorial service and celebration of life will take place at the funeral home at 11am. Full military honors will follow. Burial to be decided at a later date.
