George Vincent Godek, 83, of Columbia, beloved husband of Marilyn (Cote) Godek, passed away peacefully Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2017) surrounded by loved ones after a sudden illness.   Born Dec. 20, 1933, in Memramcook, NB, Canada, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anne (Ouelette) Godek.  He served proudly with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and went on to work in various departments at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford for 35 years before his retirement.  George loved to be active, whether it be fishing, gardening, playing chess or duck pin bowling (as longtime captain of the “Mooners” team) and in later years with the Men’s group at the Beckish Senior Center.  He was also a fan of both UCONN Basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals.  In addition to his loving wife of 49 years, he leaves his son, Gary Godek of Manchester; two stepchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Mark Schroder of Lebanon and Jim and Julie Romano of Glastonbury; five grandchildren, Krista Lambdin, Colton Schroder and Troy, Caroline and Elizabeth Romano; his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Richard Libassi of Durham; and numerous extended family and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Ronald Pozzato.  The family will receive guests 6 – 8 PM Sunday (Oct. 15th) at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester.  Graveside Services with military honors will be observed 11 AM Monday (Oct. 16th) directly at the Columbia Center Cemetery located on Route 87.  The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and staff at the ICU of Hartford Hospital for their exemplary care and concern during his final days.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beckish Senior Center, 188 Route 66, Columbia 06237.  For online condolences, please visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.co
