Howard A. Duffy III, “Lonnie”, 43, of East Haddam, passed away on January 20, 2019, late Sunday afternoon during the ice storm, while helping people who had power outages. Lonnie was born on October 3, 1975 in Idaho Falls, ID, a son of Howard and Karen (Burton) Duffy of East Haddam. He was working as a machine operator for Riggs Distler and a member of the IBEW Union #41 in the recent past. Prior to that, Lonnie was the owner and operator of a landscaping company known as Duffy Property Management in East Haddam. He also worked for Berkshire Hathaway Realty in Colchester for a time and for the East Haddam Fish and Game Club for many years. Lonnie was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, four- wheeling and taking trips to Maine with family and friends. He was an AKC Judge and showman for field trials of the German Shorthair Pointers. Lonnie was a member of the East Haddam Masons and the Sons of the American Legion. Lonnie was a hardworking man who loved to help anyone, family, friends and strangers alike. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his generous nature. In addition to his parents, he leaves his fiancé, Marcy Vitagliano of Griswold; three children, (all of whom shared the same month and day of birth as him), Pamela Duffy and her fiancé Brandon Debbis of Oakdale, twin sons, Davin and Devlin Duffy of Colchester; a brother, Jason Duffy of East Haddam; Nieces, Lydia and Clara Duffy of East Haddam; Uncles, Donald Burton, George and his wife Joan Wagner; a cousin, Christopher and his wife Jessica Wagner; his former spouse, Alexis Devlin and numerous extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by an uncle, Kevin Burton. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 25th from 5 – 8 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26th at 11 am, directly at the First Church of Christ Congregational East Haddam, 499 Town Street, E. Haddam. Burial will be private.
