Jay Gardner Ingves, “Jay Bird”, 57, of Colchester and formerly of Norwich, passed away at home on June 30, 2017.  He was born in Norwich on September 30, 1959, a son of Mae (Smith) Ingves of Colchester and the late Verner Ingves.  Jay grew up in Norwich and graduated from NFA.  He suffered with traumatic brain injury for most of his adult life.  Despite his disability, Jay was proud of his work with D. H. Marvin & Son John Deere as a mechanic.  He was also formerly a volunteer with Project Genesis, helping others with similar disabilities.  He loved his pet bird, “Baby Boy”.  Jay will be remembered for his great sense of humor.  He was a prankster who loved to banter back and forth and to see people laugh.  He was a good man, a great friend to many and like a brother to the people who helped him.  Most importantly, he was an adoring and loving grandfather.  He will be sadly missed but always remembered by his mother, Mae; his daughter, Sarah and her husband Timothy Maguire of New London; two stepsons, Charles Monck of Ellington and Jason Monck of Canterbury;  five siblings and their spouses: brothers, Kris and wife Debbie of Hebron, Kent and wife Martha of Lebanon, Keith and wife Joanne of Oakdale; and sisters, Debby and husband Thomas Gilman of Lebanon, Lesley Ingves of Oakdale; three grandchildren, Arianna Ingves, Logan and Mary Ann Monck; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  Funeral services will be held privately.  Donations in his memory may be made to Project Genesis, Inc. P.O. Box 799, Willimantic, CT 06226.
