Marion Irene Culhane, 89, of Colchester, was called home to the Lord and many treasured loved ones who had gone before on Monday, November 27, 2017.

Born on May 25, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late John and Irene (Moisan) McCarthy.  She married John F. Culhane on October 1, 1950.  The couple moved from New York to Connecticut where they made their home and raised their family.  They shared 25 years together before John predeceased her on December 9, 1975.  Marion was a Registered Nurse, and will be remembered for her caring and compassionate nature.  Her kindness and warm, welcoming smile will be remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Marion was a communicant of St. Andrew Church in Colchester.  She was a member of Colchester Grange No. 78 and had served as Secretary for many years.  In her spare time, she enjoyed watching birds as well as UCONN Basketball.  However, her greatest joy was found in her family, to whom she was ever devoted.

She leaves five children, Thomas Culhane and wife, Patricia of Colchester, Kathleen Culhane of Colchester, Gary Culhane and his wife, Lucille Culhane of Parker, CO, Vincent Culhane and his wife, Carolyn of Westfield, NJ and Eileen Culhane of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren, Rachel Follacchio and Thomas, David, Steven, Kelly Rose, Sara, Christopher, Jonathan and Matthew Culhane; three great grandchildren, Nicholas, Ian and Nathan; a sister-in-law,  Mary Driscoll of North Andover, MA; and numerous extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two siblings, Elizabeth English and Robert McCarthy.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Gary and Patty Vuylsteke and Ted Beebe for all of their love and support throughout the years.

Friends may call 4 – 7 PM Friday (Dec. 1st) at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester.  The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday (Dec. 2nd) directly at St. Andrew Church, 128 Norwich Avenue, Colchester.  She will be laid to rest alongside her late husband following Mass in the New St. Andrew Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH  45250-0301 (www.dav.org) or to the Cove Center for Grieving Children, 250 Pomeroy Ave., Ste. 107, Meriden 06450  (www.covect.org).
