Mary C. Flanigan, 85, of Lebanon and formerly of Meriden, passed away late Tuesday evening at the Harrington Court Genesis Health Care, with her beloved family by her side. Born in Southington on January 24, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Morocco) Carbone. Mary graduated from Lewis High School with the class of 1950. She married her beloved husband, Nelson E. Flanigan on January 31, 1953. The couple made their home in Meriden where they raised their family. Mary retired several years ago after having worked in the clerical department at Aetna in Middletown. Prior to that, she worked for the Meriden Orthopedic Group. Mary loved to cook and feed her family delicious food. She also loved music and was often found singing while cooking in her kitchen. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and was fondly known by her family as a nurturing, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a voracious reader and had many happy memories of family trips to Cape Cod. She will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by her husband of 65 years, Nelson; a sister, Josephine Carbone, three children and their spouses, Karen (Thomas) King of Ashford, Lori (David) Ducat of Lebanon, Larry (Diane) Flanigan of Cromwell; nine grandchildren, Erin, Ian, Noah, Jennifer, Leah, Emily, Brittany, Sean and Kelly; eight great grandchildren, Braxton, Addison, Parker, Paxton, Sawyer, Emma, Elias, Kynlee and one on the way, “Peppercorn”; and numerous extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three siblings, Guido Carbone, Antoinette Mongillo and Rose Carbone.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, beginning at 10 AM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. A funeral home memorial service will follow at 11:30 am. Burial will be private.
