Michael Newell Obituary

Michael Wayne Newell, 67, Moodus, beloved husband of Sharon, known as “The Bear” to his friends, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019. Born July 11, 1951 in Brockton, MA, he was the son of the late Elmont and Constance (Allen) Newell.  Michael proudly served our country with the United States Marine Corps and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked as a machinist for many years at EIS Automotive and later for Chester Precision before his retirement. In addition to his loving wife of 43 years, Sharon (Penkes) Newell, he leaves behind his son Daniel Newell of Florida, daughter Rebecca Gowac of Moodus, sisters , Cheryl Malcolm of Middlefield, Tammy Archer of Durham, and Lisa Burtt of Durham; Brothers Donald Newell of Durham, Greg Newell of North Branford, granddaughters Sabrina and Ashleigh Newell, Mallory and Madelyn Gowac, and one great granddaughter, Harper, as well as numerous other extended family and friends. Mike was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, his love for his family and his dogs, and how he would help anyone in need if he was able to, he will be missed by many! The family will receive guests 5 – 7 PM Wednesday (April 24nd) at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. Burial will take place on Thursday (April 25th) at 12 PM at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown.
