Norma Geer Obituary

Norma H. Geer, 90, of Lebanon, passed away on August 17, 2018, in Windham.  Born in Rowlands, PA, and raised in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Anna (Ferling-LaBoda) Hanson. Norma moved to Lebanon as a teenager, graduated from Lyman Memorial High School, and soon married her beloved Harold Nelson Geer. She quickly embraced country living and became the quintessential farmer’s wife, excelling at gardening, cooking, sewing, needlepoint and raising seven children on their dairy farm.

Norma was an active member in the Lebanon community, serving as the town Tax Collector and Registrar of Voters for many years as well as a member of the Republican Town Committee and the First Congregational Church of Lebanon. Longtime Lebanon residents may remember the Lebanon Guild of Arts and Crafts theater group, of which she was a founding member.

Norma and Harold shared a love of history and traveled extensively to National Parks, historical sites of the Civil War, and along the Oregon Trail. They shared 69 years of marriage before his death on December 31, 2015.

Most importantly, she was ever devoted to her husband and children.  Her family was her greatest joy. She will be always remembered with love by her children and their spouses: Ronald and Wynn Geer of Kennebunkport, ME; Linda Heatherly and David Ferling of Lebanon; Kathy Geer of Columbia; Sandra and Pierre Belisle of Lebanon; Russell Geer of Lebanon; daughter-in-law Deb Geer of Plainfield; grandchildren Alison, Doug, Brandon, Jim, Michael, Lauren, Tom, Stephanie, Dan, and Nicole; siblings Gustave Hanson of Idaho and Grace Falk of Sweden; and numerous great grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Norma was predeceased by sons Richard and Rory and daughter-in-law Angeles.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Joseph Living Center in Windham for their loving care over recent years. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 23rd, from 5 – 7 pm at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 7 pm.  Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Lebanon Historical Society, P.O.
