Walter Newton Canfield, 85, of East Haddam, widower of the late Marion (Mollish) Canfield, passed away Friday morning (Dec. 29, 2017) at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown.  Born October 18, 1932 in Waterford, he was a son of the late Harold and Lillian (Woodward) Canfield.  Walter was a proud veteran having served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.  He is a member of the American Legion, Post 156, East Haddam.  Walt married his beloved wife, Marion Mollish on October 6, 1973.  The couple shared 39 years of marriage before she predeceased him on December 11, 2012.  Walter was an avid fly fisherman.  He enjoyed fly tying, stamp and coin collecting and feeding the wildlife in his own backyard.  Walter loved all animals but he was deeply attached to his Bichon dog, Gracie.  Most importantly, he will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by seven children, Lori Canfield of East Haddam, John Hasuly, of Montville, Diane Stychcomb of East Millinocket, ME, Cheryl Tuttle, Francis Hasuly and Mary Ventres, all of Moodus and Debra Lupinek of Chester; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Bessie Yeager of East Haddam; and numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Maurice and Harold Canfield and Ward Gorman and a sister, Helen Gates.

Friends may call 4:30 to 5:30 PM Wednesday (Jan. 3rd) at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester.
