Anna Marie DeNora, 96, of Colchester, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family and caring friends, on August 28, 2024. Born August 9, 1928, in West Haven, CT; she was a daughter of the late Gabriel and Mary (Romano) DiNello. Anna graduated from West Haven High School in 1948, eight years later she married her soulmate, Michael DeNora in 1956, soon after the couple settled down on the family farm in Colchester where they raised their family. Anna’s love language was through her cooking, she was always willing to prepare a plate for anyone who was hungry. She embraced her role as a grandmother and was the caregiver for her grandchildren when they were growing up. Anna held a strong passion for her Catholic heritage and was a regular communicant of St. Andrew Church of the Guardian Angel Parish.
She is survived by her children and their spouses Constantine (Susan) DeNora of Rochester, NY, Barbara (Michael) Coovert of Rougemont, NC and Irene (Donald) Stanavage of Colchester; sister Assunta Calandro of West Haven; sister-in-law Phyllis DiNello; grandchildren Michael DeNora, Maxwell (Alllyson) DeNora, Dr. John Michael (Ivana) Stanavage and Peter Austin Stanavage and his girlfriend, Ava; and numerous other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers Anthony, Filemeno, Alec, James, Pasquale, John and Ralph DiNello and sisters Mary Baccki and Camelina Velleca.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 3, from 4pm to 6pm at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester, CT 06415. A Funeral Liturgy will be held the following morning 11am at the St. Andrew Church 128 Norwich Avenue in Colchester. Burial will follow in the New St. Andrew Cemetery on Gillette’s Lane in Colchester.
