Arthur R. Duff, Sr., longtime resident of Lebanon, CT, passed away peacefully at the William W. Backus Hospital on August 22, 2024—his 90th birthday.
Born in 1934 in Holland, Vermont, Arthur was one of 14 children beloved by his parents, the late Edmund and Bessie (Patton) Duff. He started his career off at Gerber Scientific where he worked as a machinist. He also served as a tool maker at Hamilton Standard for many years, finally retiring in 1993. On October 9, 1954, he married the love of his life—Marie (Suiter) Duff—and together they lived in Canton, CT and raised their growing family. They later moved to Lebanon and lived there for many years.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Arthur took great pride in his growing family. He was a friendly personality and had a gregarious sense of humor, and loved to make the people around him smile. Arthur loved animals—especially his prized peacocks and chickens—and took great care raising and preparing them for show at different fairs and events. He had a gentle and endearing soul and could make friends with anyone he met. Arthur will live on in the hearts of those fortunate to have known him and his memory will never be forgotten.
Arthur is survived by his 2 sons, Arthur Duff, Jr. of Winsted, CT, Michael Duff (Sarah) of New Hartford, CT, a daughter, Cynthia Killiany (Kevin) of Barkhamsted, CT; 16 beautiful grandchildren; 34 adored great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifford Duff; and his niece and caretaker, Laura Lake.
In addition to his parents and his beloved wife of 49 years, Marie Duff, Arthur was predeceased by a son, Edmund Duff; infant daughter, Teresa Christina; granddaughter, Melissa Duff; his brothers, Gordon, Guy, Carl, and Floyd; and his sisters, Annie Rye, Frances Lafoe, Beatrice Duff, Thelma Domina, Waver Becker, Doris Clough, Pearl Healey, and Veeda Cabana.
Arthur’s family will celebrate his life with a memorial ceremony at 11AM on Sunday, September 22, 2024, located at Brodie Park, 580 West Hill Rd., New Hartford, CT 06057. In lieu of flowers or gifts to the family, please consider a memorial donation in his honor to the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department, 23 Goshen Hill Rd., Lebanon, CT 06249.
