Beatrice Furphy, of Colchester and formerly of Elmore, VT, passed away on May 14, 2024 at Backus Hospital.  Beatrice was 92 years old.  She was born in Barre, VT on March 15, 1932, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Evangeline (Ladd) Hardy.  After high school, Beatrice went to work for Pioneer Parachute where she would meet her future husband and father of her five beloved children, Francis Furphy.  The couple settled in Colchester, CT where they made their home and raised their family.  In addition to being a devoted mom, she had several jobs to help out with the household:  Betty’s Poodle Parlor, for dog grooming, a machinist for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, and finally retiring from Stop & Shop Grocery Store in Manchester.  Beatrice returned to her former home in Morrisville, VT near Lake Elmore for several years after retirement, but later moved back to Colchester to be close to her children and grandchildren.  She will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by her children and their spouses, James (Sherry) Furphy of Willington, Kenneth (Dellonna) Furphy of Colchester, Eric (Marcy) Furphy of Colchester, Susan Parsons of Burlington, VT; many grandchildren,  great grandchildren and extended family members and friends.  In addition to her parents and former husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Jutras.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21st from 4 - 6 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester.  Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd at 1 PM in Lake Elmore Cemetery, Elmore, VT.
