Brenda Winifred Lopes

Brenda Winifred Lopes, 67, of Lebanon, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Middlesex Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on September 2, 1952, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Patricia (Murphy) Wheeler. As a young girl, in the early 1950’s, Brenda emigrated from Canada to America with her family. The Wheeler family settled in Colchester where Brenda graduated from Bacon Academy. During her youth, she was a talented dancer and was featured in her dance school’s recitals. Brenda married her beloved husband Joseph Lopes on October 11, 1980.  The couple made their home and raised their family in Lebanon.  For 21 years, she worked as a medical receptionist in Norwichtown. Brenda was a loving, hardworking, and dedicated family woman who felt a deep connection to the ocean. Brenda loved sea turtles and actively sponsored an endangered sea turtle named Bertie-too. Brenda loved boating with her family on the boat she cleverly named “Night Moves”. She took time to enjoy the simple things in life, such as reading a good book with a good cup of coffee. Time is what you make of it, and she made it loving and beautiful. She will be forever loved and remembered by her husband of 39 years, Joseph M. Lopes; her two sons, Joseph C. Lopes and his wife Megan of Colchester, Michael Lopes and his wife Holly of Durham, NC; two brothers, Brad and his wife Laura Wheeler of New London, Harry Wheeler of Maine; mother-in-law, Marie Lopes; and numerous extended family members and friends. She will also be missed by her fur babies Bella, Taz and Alexander. A celebration of Brenda’s life will take place in the summertime.
