Brenda Rai Pigan, age 68, of Colchester, Passed away at Backus Hospital early Saturday morning on May 22, 2021, after a several year courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma cancer. Her family was by her side through it all. She was born in Shirley, MA on March 21, 1953, a daughter of the late Llewellin Burton Whitney, who passed away when Brenda was very young, and the late Nancy Janet (Clement) Ray. She was also predeceased by her step-father, Donald Ray, Sr. Brenda grew up in Hebron and graduated from RHAM High School. Her love of children brought her to a long and successful career as a Para Professional at the Gilead Elementary School in Hebron, where she truly enjoyed her work, a labor of love. She married her long-time companion and best friend, Donald Pigan on April 2, 2011. The couple lived in Colchester where Brenda made their house a home with beautiful gardens and a place where their family and friends were always welcome. Brenda was happiest spending time with her treasured grandchildren. They enjoyed boating together, going to the beach or to the pool at the marina in Niantic. In her spare time, Brenda was a talented artist and crafter who made wonderful artful items that will be enjoyed by many. Most importantly, Brenda will be remembered as a devoted family woman, who’s selfless love will never be forgotten. She will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by her husband Donald; her daughter and son in law, Shannon and Scott Massey of Amston; four grandchildren, J. Austin, and Cole Massey, both of Manchester, Alexa, and Chase Massey, both of Amston; four siblings and their spouses, Donald (Laurie Ann) Ray of Lebanon, Michael (Joyce) Ray of Columbia, Patrick Ray of Scotland, Lori Ray Dumas of Florida; and many extended family members and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 19, 2021 at the Colchester Fish and Game Club at 12:00 PM. The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester has been entrusted with care of arrangements.
