Brian Van Czarnota, of Windsor and formerly of Wethersfield, CT, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Kimberly Hall Nursing Home in Windsor. Born April 2, 1946, in Hartford, CT; he was the son of the late Leo and Louise (LePak) Czarnota.
Brian was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and served our nation by enlisting in the United States Army in 1968. For 20 years Brian worked as a firefighter for the city of Hartford, starting in 1974 until his retirement in 1994. Just prior to his retirement he married his wife, the late Lorraine (Profita) Czarnota, they shared 23 years of marriage together until she predeceased him in 2013. During Brian’s retirement he and Lorraine moved to New Orleans where he worked for a time at Fox Photo. Friends and family alike will always remember Brian for his quirky, if not eccentric sense of humor and talented passion for music. Brian always had a ukulele on standby ready to strum at a moment’s notice should the opportunity present itself. In addition to the ukulele, he also played bass guitar, and played with his friends in their band called “Road Trip”.
Brian’s passion for music was matched by his faith, he believed and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and attended the First Assembly of God Church in Colchester with his daughter Hilary when he was able to attend services.
He is survived by his son Justin Czarnota and wife Jessica Czarnota, daughter Hilary Brick and husband Matt Brick; sisters Nancy Tassak and husband Richard, Pamela Danahy and Lisa Czarnota; grandchildren Skylar Cuppett; and Chandler, Quinton, Kolby and Griffin Czarnota; and numerous other extended family and friends.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 10 AM directly at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT located at 317 Bow Lane. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Masonic Care Hospice www.masonicare.org
