Bryan E. DeGray, 65, formerly of Hebron, CT, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, November 2, 2024, while in hospice care surrounded by his wife and boys, after a courageous and prolonged battle with cancer. Bryan was born on December 3, 1958, at the Newport, RI Naval Base to Bruce and Roberta DeGray.
Bryan was a lively and caring individual, known for his love of life and his dedication to his family. He grew up in Hebron, where he was actively involved in sports and music. As a child, he played Little League Baseball, coached by his father, and excelled in Basketball sporting #11 at RHAM High School, where he graduated in 1977. He also fostered a love for music, playing the drums and performing with the Marlborough Fife and Drum Corps. His passion for music continued throughout his life, and he later formed his own band.
After high school, Bryan attended Lincoln Tech, where he pursued HVAC courses that led to him owning and operating his own HVAC business. His work ethic, integrity, and hands-on expertise earned him the respect of many in his community.
Bryan’s greatest joys in life was his family and fur family. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Ryan-DeGray and couch companion Oscar who remained by his side. He is also survived by his sons, Adam DeGray (wife Luciana DeGray) of Newington, CT and Kyle DeGray of Sacramento, CA, his loving grandchildren (Brooke, Brayden and Myla DeGray), his parents Bruce and Roberta DeGray and niece Paige Rushford of Amston, CT, and his Aunt Virginia Hutchinson, along with her three daughters and their families in Texas. He also leaves behind close cousins, Brenda and Paul Vanasse and Michelle Slivinsky of Connecticut and Gary Porter of Pennsylvania, their families, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Debra Rushford, and nephew, Brett Rushford.
Bryan’s infectious personality, quick wit, and big heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life calling hours will be held at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester, CT on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 2-3pm followed by a Memorial Service.
