Carl S. Apelquist

Carl S. Apelquist, 81, of Colchester, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Born January 22, 1940 in Hartford; he was a son of the late Philip Apelquist, Sr. and Mary (Lesnewsky) Apelquist. Carl was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, and later went on to New England Technical Institute. In 1961 he married “the girl next door” Dana Chapman. For several years he worked at Pratt & Whitney as a machinist. In 1968 he went to work for the Department of Transportation, until his early retirement in 1980 due to a work related injury. Carl was an outdoors man in every sense of the word, he was always at his happiest when he was out in nature hunting, fishing, or boating. When he wasn't outdoors he was constantly reading or learning about various subjects that interested him. His son often called him Einstein, because of his vast knowledge He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Dana Apelquist of Colchester; son Dennis (Michelle) Apelquist of Colchester; grandchildren Alyssa and Joshua Apelquist of Colchester; and numerous other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sons Carl, Jr. and Christopher Thomas Apelquist; and his brothers Phillip Jr. and Arthur Apelquist. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. A chapel service will be held the following day on June 29, 2021 at 10 AM directly at the funeral home.
