Carol Ann Chappell, 81, of Salem, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 12, 1945, in Rockville, Connecticut, to the late Esther and Ken Wetmore. A proud graduate of Rockville High School, Class of 1963, Carol went on to build a fulfilling career, working for Phoenix Insurance Company, S&S Worldwide, and Johnson Marine. Known for her strong work ethic and kind spirit, she formed lasting friendships everywhere she went.

In 1975, Carol married the love of her life, Herb Chappell Sr. Together, they built a warm, welcoming, and beautiful life in Salem, a place Carol cherished deeply. Carol was a woman of many joys. She loved spending quiet afternoons reading, relaxing evenings watching Westerns, and creative moments crocheting. She nurtured a lifelong passion for gardening, found happiness attending local fairs especially to watch the ox pulls her family had competed in for decades, and cherished watching her sons many sporting events as he grew up. Above all, she deeply loved her family and her petsespecially her devoted dog Brutus, as well as her beloved dogs Yankee and Noah who welcomed her home in Heaven.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Herb Chappell Sr. She leaves behind her son and stepdaughters: Beverly (Kenny) Moulton of Massachusetts, Cindy (Cecil) Chappell of South Carolina, and Herbie (Colleen) Chappell Jr of Connecticut. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Wetmore of Florida; her eight cherished grandchildren, fourteen greatgrandchildren, and one greatgreat-grandchild, all of whom brought her immeasurable pride and joy. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Norman Wetmore of Maine; and her stepdaughter, Jill OBrien, of Pennsylvania. Carol will be remembered for her gentle heart, her unwavering love for her family, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her legacy lives on in the generations she lovingly nurtured.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM directly at the Salem Green Cemetery, Hartford Road, Salem.
