Carol Jean Stupplebeen, 77, of Salem, passed away on the early morning of Friday, January 19, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. Born February 27, 1946 in New London, CT; she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (MacDougall) Austin. Carol married her husband, David Stupplebeen on her 21st birthday, February 27, 1967 in Groton, CT. The couple shared nearly 57 years of marriage together and raised their family in Salem. Carol was a hardworking woman; she worked for Pratt & Whitney for 15 years, and worked for over 13 years as a decorated Correction Officer for the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections. In her spare time she volunteered for the Elks Club and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved to travel and was proud to have achieved her goal of traveling to all 50 states, and several countries. Her favorite places to travel was to their vacation home in Vermont and Florida. Carol will always be remembered for both her strong work ethic, and ability to handle the difficulties that come with being a corrections officer, while at the same time being a warm and maternal presence in her family’s life. She loved spending time with her family and growing number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband David Stupplebeen; son Joseph Stupplebeen, daughter Carol Hawkins; sister Joann Gager; grandchildren Dennis, Crystal Ann, Joshua, Britney, and Tyler; seven great grandchildren; and numerous other extended family and friends. She will be missed and loved by all who knew her. She was a very special lady.
