Charles Max Baier, Jr

Charles Max Baier, Jr., Fondly known as Charlie, of Colchester, passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2026, with his loving family attentively by his side.  He is 83 years old.  Charlie was born on October 31, 1942, in New London, CT to the late Charles and Helen (Pukas) Baier, Sr.. On June 29, 1968, he married the love of his life, Patricia M. Williamson.  The couple settled in Colchester where they made their home and raised their son and daughter.  Charlie had a tremendous love of baseball.  He coached instructional league baseball for over 20 years in Colchester, and he also volunteered as coach for the Bacon Academy JV team for many years.  Charlie retired in 1999 after a long and successful career ending as the machine shop coordinator for United Technologies Research Center.  In his free time, Charlie volunteered at the Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue in East Hampton.  Most importantly, he will be remembered as a hardworking family man, who was soft spoken and a good friend to all who knew him.  He will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by his wife, Pat of nearly 58 years; his children and their spouses, Richard Baier (Angela Maple) of Colchester, VT, Lisa (Roy) Castle of Scotland, CT; two grandchildren, Thomas and Abigail Castle; and many extended family members and friends.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 1st from 5 – 7pm at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester.  The burial will be held privately, according to his wishes.  Donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue: www.ctdraftrescue.org For online condolences or to share a story of Charlie please visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com
