Cheryl Ann Wheaton, of Colchester and formerly of Lebanon, passed away into the arms of the Lord Friday morning on June 17, 2022, at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, after a long and courageous struggle with illness. Born in Springfield, MA on February 24, 1947, she was a daughter of the late J. David and Edith (Cote) Perotti. Cheryl was a graduate of Eastern CT State University with a Master’s Degree in Science. She married Robert Wheaton on June 13,1970 and the couple settled in Lebanon, CT where they made their home and raised their family. Robert predeceased her in 1996. Cheryl worked as a bookkeeper for Mackey’s in Willimantic for many years and then served for over 25 years as the Parish Secretary at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church where she was a communicant and also served with the Ladies Guild and the Parish Council. Cheryl was involved with scouts when her children were young and also served on several Lebanon Town Committees, staying very active in her community. She loved putting together jigsaw puzzles, collecting stamps, coins and playing cards and backgammon with her close friend. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a soft spoken, loving, and supportive mother, grandmother, and friend. Cheryl’s passing will be mourned by many but she will be remembered with love especially by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Jennifer Wheaton with whom she made her home in Colchester; her sister, Gail Kasuba and her husband Mike of Springfield, MA; four grandchildren, Crystal Wolf and her husband Christopher, Zachary Chesters, Rebecca Chesters Wheaton, Mallory Wheaton and many extended family members and friends. She will also be very missed by her church community to which she was very dedicated. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased in death by a daughter, Jennifer Chesters. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care Unit and all departments that cared for Cheryl at L&M Hospital. A special thank you as well to the Colchester Senior Center for providing transportation to Cheryl for many years. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday June 30th at 10am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, West Town St. Lebanon. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery on Waterman Rd.
