The pillar of our family, Christos N. Alevras, 83, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on September 16, 2025.

Born on July 20, 1942, in a beautiful village, Sophiada, Greece, he was the son of the late Nikolas and Georgia Alevras. As a young man, Christos served in the Greek military as a ships mechanic (third rank). He married the love of his life, Vassiliki Gionis in 1966. In 1970, Christos and Vassiliki and their first little girl, Georgia, immigrated to the United States, for a 60-year-long journey that took them on various adventures across the U.S. during which time, they had two additional little girls, Ourania and Christina. Together, Christos and Vassiliki built their life in Colchester, CT, as respected business owners in their community and loving parents to their three girls, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Our dad always put everyone’s health and needs before his own, often risking his own life to save others physically, financially, and emotionally. Christos took any and every opportunity to love on his family, take his little ones fishing, enjoy his love of soccer and particularly, Olympiakos, and truly and always supporting us all as we grew and found our way.

Our Dad and Papou, Christos, our families foundation, will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love by his loving wife and life-long partner, Vassiliki, his children Georgia, Ourania, and Christina Alevras; his grandchildren Christos Stravoravdis, Yiannis Politis, Vasiliki Brodeur, Stefanos Stravoravdis, Stamatina Politis, Vasileios Politis, his great grandchildren, his siblings Zisis and Ariadni Alevras, Zisis’ wife Angie and children Nick and Alex and grandchildren, his brother-in law George Gionis and family, many extended family members, and friends.

Care of arrangements has been entrusted to the Aurora McCarthy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 18th at the St. Sophia Church in New London at 10am. The burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery in Colchester, CT directly following the service.
