Daniel McCarthy

Daniel Kevin Patrick McCarthy, 70, of Southington, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at his home after a short illness. He was the loving husband of Janet (Dziedzic) McCarthy for 15 blessed years.

Dan was born on April 26, 1955 in Marlborough, MA to the late Leo and Irene (Fairbanks) McCarthy. He graduated from Bacon Academy in Colchester, CT and went on to earn his degree in Mortuary Science from Briarwood College where he also met the love of his life, Janet.

In 1996, Dan, co-founded The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home in Colchester, CT. He enjoyed a long and rewarding career as the Director of The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel in Wethersfield. After his retirement in 2021, he continued to look forward to lending a hand at D’Esopo whenever he was called upon. Dan was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed traveling, especially with Janet. He was happiest at home, spending time with his family and being the greatest “Papa.” He enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing at the Southington Sportsmen’s Association and they all looked forward to the Association’s annual fishing derby.

In addition to his wife Janet, Dan is survived by her two children, Alex John Ricciardone and his wife Nicole and Robyn Ricciardone, and two cherished grandchildren, Alexander and Valentina, all of Southington. He is also survived by his brother, Sean McCarthy and his wife Patricia of Lebanon and Maureen Marvin and her husband Michael of Colchester and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was held privately according to his wishes. Donations in Dan’s memory may be made to the CT Humane Society (https://cthumane.org/).  A memorial service and celebration of life will be held from the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester on Saturday August 9th beginning with calling hours from 1 - 3 PM followed by a memorial service at the funeral  home at 3:15 PM.
