Debra Jane Charbonnier, fondly known as “Nook”, passed away on October 16, 2023, at her home in East Haddam, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. Her beloved and attentive family was by her side through it all. Debbie was born in New London CT on November 6, 1963, the daughter of the late Raymond and Jane (Fenton) Davis. She grew up in Salem and graduated from Norwich Free Academy. At the age of 16, she met the love of her life, Arthur Henry Charbonnier, fondly known as “Buddy”. The couple were married on December 5, 1980, and the love story continued for the next 43 years together. They raised their family in Salem where they ran a small family convenience store. For the most part, Debbie was a stay-at-home mom who took great pride and care in raising their five sons. Buddy later built her a beautiful home in East Haddam. Nook also loved their vacation home in Florida where she and the family vacationed as often as possible. She was a crafty vacation planner and traveled frequently arranging wonderful trips for Buddy and the family to enjoy. She truly enjoyed boating or any activity near water. Nook and Buddy were longtime members of the St. Joseph’s Polish Club in Colchester where they were very active and also played in the Set Back league for 30 years. Most importantly, Debbie will be remembered for her beautiful smile, the way she took care of people in need, and how she treated everyone she met like family. Her loss will be mourned by all who knew her, especially her husband, Buddy; her children and their spouses, Arthur David (Sara) Charbonnier of Salem, Adam Charbonnier of E. Haddam, Keith (Bonnie) Charbonnier of Colchester, Christopher Charbonnier of S. Warwick, RI, Kevin Charbonnier of E. Haddam; her treasured grandchildren who knew her as Nana, Layla, Marlee, Ozzy, Isabella, Keith Jr., Grace, and Noah; her siblings, Rick (Donna) Davis of Hanover, PA, David Davis of Myrtle Beach, SC, a brother-in-law, Ed Crocker of Salem; a soon-to-be born great grandchild; and countless nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Nook was predeceased by a sister, Cynthia Crocker.
