Debra Ann Rushford, age 59, of Amston, passed away at home on October 28, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 23, 1961 in Hartford, she was the daughter of Bruce and Roberta (Porter) DeGray of Amston. Deb was a talented hairdresser and for the past 10 years, she put her talent to work as the owner and operator of Shattered Endz Hair Salon in Colchester. Deb was an active member of the Colchester Business Association where she served on the Board of Directors for several years as well as several committees and community events. She was also a member of the Colchester Lions since 2013. In her spare time, Deb enjoyed league bowling with friends in East Hampton. She also enjoyed cooking and sharing what she cooked with her family and friends. Deb loved living on Amston Lake, where she was often found enjoying the sand and sun during the summer months. Deb will be remembered as a strong and hardworking woman who faced her illness with bravery and grace. She made the best of every situation, especially the difficult ones. She was outgoing and fun loving and her vibrant personality will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Bruce and Roberta, she is survived by her daughter, Paige Rushford of Amston; her brother, Bryan and his wife Deborah DeGray of Coconut Creek, FL; her former spouse, Steve Rushford of Taftville; her uncle, Milton Porter; Aunt, Virginia Hutchinson and numerous extended family and friends. She also leaves her beloved dog, Tasha. Sadly, she was predeceased by her son, Brett Rushford on June 22, 2018. A celebration of life calling hours will be held at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester on Wednesday, November 4th from 4 – 7 pm with walk through calling hours, utilizing face coverings and social distancing. Since her diagnosis with breast cancer, Deb worked diligently to bring about awareness of the disease and work for a cure.
