Donald Evert Rubb, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023, at Hartford Hospital with his beloved family attentively by his side through his illness. He was 79 years old. Donald was born on April 14, 1944, in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Evert and Ruth (Ellison) Rubb. He was a proud veteran having served with the US Army Reserves. He graduated from college with a degree in Engineering and went to work as a Line Engineer for the former SNET Phone Company. He was a dedicated employee for several decades, retiring a few years ago. Donald met his future wife, Yolande Corbeil in Hartford while working for the telephone company and she, working with the Traveler’s Insurance Company. They were married on September 24, 1966, and then lived for a time in Windsor and later settled in Vernon, CT where they made their home and raised their family. They were members of the Sacred Heart Church in Vernon where Donald also served as a Eucharistic Minister for the Parish. The couple moved to Columbia in 1998 where they enjoyed their retirement home. He is now a communicant of St. Columba Church. In his free time, Donald loved bike riding. He was a techie enthusiast who loved all kinds of gadgets, he loved the science of them, and he was particularly fond of his EV car. Most importantly, he was a man of strong faith, a loving, devoted, generous, and kind family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren above all else. His loss will be mourned by many, especially by his wife of 57 years, Yolande; his children and their spouses, Monique (Thomas) Ryan of Hebron, Stephen (Susan) Rubb of Glastonbury; a sister, Elaine Carone of Columbia; grandchildren, Jenna Bogaczyk, Marissa and Jason Rubb, Benjamin, William and Lucas Ryan; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Genevieve Bogaczyk. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 14th at 11:00 AM at St. Columba Church, 328 Rte. 66, Columbia.
