Dorothy Mrowka Obituary

Dorothy Ann Mrowka, 78, of Colchester, passed away at home on April 29, 2021. Born in New London, CT, on October 13, 1942, to the late Joseph and Stella (Zawisza) Ploszaj. Dorothy’s schooling took her all the way through earning a Masters degree in Business Administration which led to a long and successful career as a computer programmer for AETNA Insurance.  She married her beloved husband Lucien C. Mrowka on January 12, 1974.  The couple shared 38 years of marriage before he predeceased her on May 17, 2012.  Dorothy moved to Colchester in 1973 and fast became a pillar of the community.  She was a member of St. Andrew Church where she served with the Ladies Guild and the First Friday Rosary Guild.  Dorothy was also very involved with the Colchester Democratic Committee and the Federation of Democratic Women.  She served as the Registrar of Voters for 25 years and was twice awarded the Ella T. Grasso Award.  She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Polish Society and Auxiliary and a life member of the Colchester Grange #78.  Many couples made their wedding vows with Dorothy acting as a Justice of the Peace. Dorothy loved baking and decorating cakes for family birthdays and other occasions.  She also enjoyed knitting and many who knew her now own a blanket which was hand made by Dorothy.  In short, Dorothy gave her time and talents selflessly to one and all. She was a kind, generous and loving woman who touched so many lives and will not soon be forgotten.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Jeffrey R. Watson of Colchester; her daughter, Tammy and her husband Ricky Keller of Colchester; her brother, Joseph J. Ploszaj of Salem; her sisters, Peggy Fedus of Chelmsford, MA, and Mary Lou Johnson of Groton; her two beloved grandchildren, Tyler Keller of Colchester and Taylor Watson of Union; and many wonderful nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, David Thomas Watson.
