Edwin Czarkowski, 84, of Colchester, passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side on his 84th birthday. Born June 27, 1937 in Willimantic, Connecticut; he was the son of the late Felix and Mary Rec. Ed was a graduate of Windham High School and completed carpentry classes at Windham Technical High School post-graduation. He then went on to serve in the Army National Guard. In the early 70’s he started his own business, Czarkowski Builders as a builder and then general contractor. At the time of his retirement in 2010 he was responsible for constructing over 400 houses and 6 roads in the local area including Vicki Lane and Debi Circle. Ed was Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Moodus Savings Bank for 15 years. He was also an Honorary member of the Colchester Hayward Fire Department. Ed was immensely proud of his Polish Heritage and in his spare time enjoyed golfing with his friends, fishing, and spending time at his cottage on Great Hammock Beach in Old Saybrook CT. When he was not golfing or fishing, he could usually be found in his garage, cooking and tinkering with numerous small projects, while polkas played in the background. He was wise, kind, had a great sense of humor and always went out of his way to help others. He will always be remembered by those who loved him as both a gentleman and a gentle man. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Debi Marvin of Colchester CT; his companion of 23 years Dot Wocl of Moodus CT and her family; sister Judith Prochorchik of Tolland CT; nieces Tamara and Heather; his best “buddy” Tag, and numerous other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Victoria (Stula). The family would like to extend a special thanks to Kara and his other angels whom he affectionately referred to as his “Gestapos” for their love and great care. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 10am-12pm at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester, CT. Followed by a burial in the New St. Andrew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to Colchester Hayward Volunteer Fire Department, 52 Old Hartford Road Colchester CT 06415 in memory of Ed.
