Eileen Culhane, of Brooklyn, NY and formerly of Colchester, CT. passed away at her home on July 19, 2022. She was 57 years old. Born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on February 24, 1965, she was a daughter of the late John and Marion (McCarthy) Culhane. Eileen grew up in Colchester and graduated from Bacon Academy with the class of 1983. While living in Colchester, Eileen was a communicant at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church. Soon after graduating, she moved to NY where she began a long and successful career as an office manager/bookkeeper with Central Mechanical Systems in Brooklyn. Eileen had an affinity for cats and rescued countless abandoned cats in NY where she would care for them, neuter them, and then find a safe happy home where they could live out their lives. Fortunately, she had a large family and many wonderful friends who also loved cats and found themselves to be the recipients of many of the cats in their own safe, happy homes. Eileen had no children of her own but was known by her many nieces and nephews as “The Cool Aunt”, fun loving, with a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. She will be remembered fondly for the kindness she generously showed to others and for her beautiful smile. Eileen’s loss will be mourned by many, but her memory will be a blessing for all who knew her. She is survived by her siblings, Kathleen Culhane of Colchester, Thomas and his wife, Patricia Culhane of Colchester, Gary and his wife, Lucille Culhane of Parker, CO, Vincent Culhane and his wife, Carolyn Milhiser of Westfield, NJ, numerous nieces, nephews, 3 great nephews, a special godson Steven Culhane, extended family members, especially Aunt Mary and Uncle John Driscoll of North Andover, MA & their family and her cousin John English of Oceanside, NY & his children Johnny, Ryan, Lindsey & Casey who were her family in NY and her many friends. A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 27th at 12 Noon at New St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Gillettes Lane, Colchester. Donations in her memory may be made to the aspca.org/donate/memorial or the Colchester Hayward Fire Department 52 Old Hartford Road, Colchester CT 06415. The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester has been entrusted with care of arrangements. For online condolences, please visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com
