Obituary

Elizabeth (Liz) Wolstenholme, 86, of Colchester, beloved wife of  Roy Wolstenholme, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 29, 2023. Born in Middletown, CT on February 9, 1937, she was the daughter of John and Betty (Shaffer) Hartinger. Liz graduated from East Hampton High school in 1955 and married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Roy. Liz and Roy were married for almost 65 years and spent 54 of those years in Salem, CT raising their family. Liz was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and co-worker. She enjoyed working as sales representative for Dutchmaid Fashions and S&S Leather where she developed life-long friendships. A woman ahead of her time she was able to balance a career while raising her family. With her strong work ethic and appetite to learn, she always challenged herself by learning new technologies, reading and keeping her mind sharp by playing daily puzzles such as Sudako, 7 Little Words and Wordle. Liz cherished the time she spent with her family, whether it be a hot summer day by the pool, especially her grandchildren, going out for lunch with loved ones or just relaxing in her back yard enjoying the abundance of nature. Liz’s love was unconditional – she always saw the best in people, had a quick wit, made you feel loved, welcomed and always able to lift your spirits when you needed it the most. Her spark, especially the twinkle in her eyes telling you that you were loved, will be greatly missed by her loving family, husband; Roy Wolstenholme; daughters, Cathleen Wolstenholme, Susan, and husband Zenko Salecky, Lisa, and husband Burton Stowe; son, Ross Wolstenholme; sisters, Janet Marchand, Anna Hecht; grandchildren, Joseph and wife Kristen Salecky, Timothy Salecky, along with many other extended family members and friends. Along with her parents Liz was predeceased by her half sister Marie Johnson. Calling hours will be held at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home on Thursday, July 6, from 10am-12pm with a Funeral mass following calling hours at the St. Andrew’s Church in Colchester, burial will be held privately at a later date.
