Ethel S. DePaola (Bauer) 97, of Colchester, formerly of Waterford, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021 peacefully at home with her family by her side. Born July 30, 1923 in Kingston, NY, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Laura (Dowell) Bauer. Mrs. DePaola was married to the late Eugene A. DePaola on January 11, 1953 in Kingston, NY. Before her marriage, she worked as a seamstress at the historic US Lace Curtain Mill. Afterwards she devoted her time to raising her children. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going to all their sporting events, school activities, and recitals. In her free time, she liked to knit, crochet, and garden. She also enjoyed viewing the hummingbirds from her window. Ethel volunteered in the Girl Scouts of America as a Troop Leader and Service Unit Coordinator for Waterford. She is survived by her two daughters Susan Barringer of Ellenville, NY, and Kathryn Leitkowski and her husband Edward of Colchester; seven grandchildren: Eugene, Nicole, Megan, Rachael, Nicholas, Gregory, and Bethany; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Mabel Myers, granddaughter Laura Barringer, and son-in-law Harlan Barringer. Her family will receive guests on Friday, July 23, 2021, from 11 AM-12 PM directly at the Westchester Congregational Church, 98 Cemetery Road, Colchester. A Funeral service will take place at 12 PM at the church, followed by a gravesite blessing and burial at  Jordan Cemetery in Waterford. A reception will be held at the church after the burial.
