Evelyn May Grabber Obituary

Evelyn May Grabber, of Lebanon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the age of 95. Evelyn was born in Norwich on August 28, 1930, a daughter of the late Mabel Irene (Perkins) Fargo and Alvin Fargo. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Lebanon, graduating from Lyman Memorial High School in 1949 and then on August 19, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Frank Spafford Grabber. The couple made their home in Lebanon on the family farm known as Oweneco Farms.

Although she worked as a bookkeeper and bus driver for Clark Transportation for more than 30 years, her true calling and passion was working beside her husband on their family farm where you would find her driving the tractor bailing hay and driving the truck chopping corn. Another true passion for Evelyn and her husband Spafford evolved in 1991 with the creation of Oweneco Farms Sugar Shack. They went into partnership with Evelyns sister-in-law, Dawn and her husband, John Drum and together they began making maple syrup on the farm. Her husband predeceased her in 2008.

Evelyn was a devout Christian and member of the First Congregational Church of Lebanon where she served in many capacities working with the Sunday School, served as clerk for many years and enjoyed working on the Supper Committee and running the churches hamburger booths at the Lebanon Fair alongside her husband for many years. Church family and community were important to her; she was a loving, giving and caring person and she loved her volunteer work with Neighbors Helping Neighbors. During her leisure hours, Evelyn often enjoyed immersing herself in a good book or unwinding with her crocheting. Some of her favorite memories and cherished times were made while camping with her family and friends. The grandchildren have many wonderful memories of their camping days with Grandma and Grandpa at Strawberry Park.

She will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by her daughter, Ellen Meseroll with whom she made her home; her grandchildren, Kelly (Thomas) Brinkmann of Colorado Springs, CO, Ashley (Derek) Rhodes of Mansfield, Wesley Meseroll of Ohio; great grandchildren, Joel Brinkmann, Kenneth Rhodes, Cayden Miller, Ava Rhodes, Logan Meseroll, Garrett Meseroll and Hugo Doll-Meseroll; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Scott Meseroll and siblings, Albert Fargo and Beatrice Hebert.

Please join the family for a Memorial Service in celebration of her life on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11 am at the First Congregational Church of Lebanon, on the corner of West Town Street and Exeter Road, Lebanon. Burial will be private in the Exeter Cemetery. Donations in Evelyns memory may be made to the First Congregational Church (Deacons Fund), P.O. Box 125, Lebanon CT 06249. The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester has been entrusted with arrangements. For online condolences or to share a story of Evelyn, please visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com
