Florencia M. Cabanillas, “Florence”, age 88, of Colchester, passed away at home, with her beloved children by her side on April 24, 2021. Born in Chuquibambilla Peru on January 1, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Francisco and Contantina (Valle) Ayala. Florence married Luis E. Cabanillas on December 21, 1968 in Hartford. The couple lived in Willimantic for a time before moving to Colchester where they made their home and raised their family. They shared 46 years together before he predeceased her on November 13, 2015. Florence was a talented crafter who enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was also an excellent cook who enjoyed making special dishes for her children and family. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a fiercely devoted mother who put her children above all else. Florence will be sadly missed but remembered with love by her son, Luis and daughter, Karol Cabanillas, both of Colchester; a sister, Reyna Ayala and three brothers, Militon, Gregario and Leoncio Ayala, all of Peru; a cousin, whom she referred to as her sister, Livia Valenzuela of Salem; and many extended family members and friends. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew Church, 128 Norwich Ave., Colchester on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in the New St. Andrew Cemetery in Colchester.
