Francis “Frank” Augustus Englehart, IV. 72 of Colchester passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Water’s Edge Nursing Home in Middletown, CT. Born December 31, 1951, in Manchester, CT; he was the son of the late Francis Englehart, Jr. and Mary (McKee) Englehart. Francis grew up in Rockville, CT and transitioned into the United States Navy in 1970 from high school and served our nation during the Vietnam and Cold War conflicts. During his six-year tour he had the honor of serving on USS Constitution in Boston. From there he went on to Submariner school and served on vessels such as the USS Sam Rayburn. Shortly after his honorable discharge he settled in Colchester, CT and started his career as a aerospace machinist at Pratt & Whitney. He worked there for 23 years, made lots of friends and found long-term love and companionship with his loving wife Laurie (Kmiec) Englehart (predeceased him in 2013). They raised their family in Colchester and post-Pratt Frank worked for other distinguished companies like Textron, Easterseals and Electric Boat in foreman and management roles. Frank will always be remembered as a hardworking and renaissance man, full of good humor. During his retirement he traveled to Alaska and Italy, worked as a part-time caregiver, and volunteered during Thanksgiving Dinners at SubVets in Groton. With his professional background, he was a natural hobbyist for anything mechanical. Additionally, he was a proud life member of the SubVets and is part of their Holland Club having held his dolphins for 50+ years. He is survived by his daughters Victoria Englehart of Baltic and Taylor Walsh with son-in-law Patrick Walsh of Middletown. Grandchildren Rachael and Stephanie Duckworth; sisters Virginia Rasmussen of Spokane Washington, Grace Elliott of Arlington, TX and Sally Evans of Tuson, AZ; and additional extended family and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 10 to 12 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester, CT 06415, followed by a Chapel service at the funeral home at 12 PM.
