Frank was predeceased by his parents, Anthony Angelo Scopino and Angelina (Cinamella) Scopino, and by his brother Tony Scopino. He is survived by his children, Daniel and his wife Allison Scopino, and his beloved granddaughter, Romy, of Bristol, CT, as well as Kristen Scopino and her partner, Alex Sadkin, of Reading, PA. He is also survived by his brother, John Scopino of Pennsylvania.
A gifted athlete, Frank excelled in soccer, baseball, and basketball in his youth and was widely regarded as having the potential for a professional career. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam, where he was wounded in combat. Following his recovery, he completed his military service stateside, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was awarded 2 purple hearts, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Frank acquired his CDL and began driving trucks commercially after the war. He then began his career with the Teamsters union through a connection from his uncle Tom and joined the union in 1980. He went on to serve as President of Teamsters Local 493 until 1992. After leaving his position at the Teamsters, he continued working as a commercial truck driver until retiring early in 2008 to care for his mother.
Known for his love of cars, Frank collected many vehicles over the years, including Corvettes, a GTO, a Porsche, and several BMWs. His prized possession was his 1967 Corvette and he also had a lifelong love of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. When his health allowed, he enjoyed golfing with friends, and he always appreciated time spent over a good meal with those he cared about. His famous coffee steak on the grill was a favorite among family and friends.
Frank was exceptionally funny, with a sharp sense of humor that could ease even the hardest moments. He was charming, warm, and a natural mediatoralways appealing to peoples better nature and encouraging them to do right by each other. He was unapologetically himself and devoted much of his energy to supporting the people in his life.
In recent years, despite health challenges, he took great pride in improving his home to reflect his own style. He enjoyed watching sports, spending time in the sun, and watching the birds and deer that visited his yard, and he spent meaningful time with the large circle of family and friends who were such an important part of his life. Frank faced difficult circumstances with resilience, humor, and unwavering dedication to others.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
