Garry G. Finnegan Obituary
Garry George Finnegan—loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather—passed away peacefully at his Colchester home on August 20, 2024. He was 80.
Born on October 16, 1943, Garry was the beloved son of the late George and Jean (Labounty) Finnegan. He was raised in New London and graduated from New London High School, Class of 1962. Following high school, Garry served in the U.S. Army and would later attend Thames Valley State Technical College to earn his degree in Engineering. Garry built a decades-long career in the gaming industry, working in the engineering departments of Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos as an executive, and ultimately retiring from World Resort Casino in New York. Early in his career, Garry was a member of IBEW Local 90.
Above all, Garry was a true family man. A devoted and loving husband and father, Garry loved to spend time and make memories with his close inner circle of friends and family. Growing up by the water gave him an appreciation for the ocean and the beauty of nature; he loved any activity that brought him to the water, including fishing, boating, or relaxing on the beach. He loved to golf and could frequently be found cheering on his grandchildren at all their sporting events.
A quiet but gentle soul, Garry could make friends with anyone he met. He was greatly admired by all his friends and colleagues and would never hesitate to help someone in need. Garry was a very special and unique personality to all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed and always remembered.
Garry is survived by his wife, Judy (Brown) Finnegan; his daughter, Michelle Duplice and her husband, Marc of Colchester; his 3 beautiful grandchildren, Shane Duplice and his wife, Heather of Thornton, CO, Megan Duplice of Middletown, CT, and Brennan Duplice of Colchester.
Garry’s life will be celebrated by his family in a private service. They would like to express their deepest gratitude for the care and compassion provided by the staff at Hartford Healthcare Hospice; for the attention by the caregivers at The Key; and the dedicated professionals at Ross Adult Day Center.
