Gayle M. (Huntley) Millard
June 18, 1951 ~ January 28, 2024 (age 72) 72 Years Old
Gayle M. Millard, 72, of Colchester, passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 28, 2024.
Born in Middletown to the late Harold Huntley, Sr. and Luella (Schreier) Huntley, she worked for many years with Colchester Public Schools where she worked in the kitchen serving student lunches.
Gayle was truly her own woman. She was strong-minded, at times opinionated, and not afraid to share her views about anything. But her heart was gentle and loving, especially to all her Standish Road friends and family—a community she loved to be a part of and that loved her right back. Her neighbors always delighted seeing her walk her cherished pup Grocki, and before him it was Freddie, and sometimes even in his very own stroller, or just outside working around her home while relaxing with a cold Busch Light and a Celeste Pizza. Her car rarely sat long enough to cool down as she had a daily regimen of distributing goodies throughout the neighborhood. This sometimes included re-distributing some of the things she had received herself earlier that day, as there was a concerted neighborhood effort to fatten her up, just a little.
Gayle found great peace in her gardening, baking, and frequently tending to her yard while enjoying the outdoors. She loved boating on the Connecticut River and wouldn’t think twice about going on solo runs from the East Haddam launch all the way up to Cromwell on her mini-boat. She at one time, served as Commodore of the Cromwell Outboard Association. She enjoyed shopping in Cromwell (her previous hometown) and spending quality time there with her many special friends.
Gayle was a one-of-a-kind personality that put smiles on the faces of everyone who knew her. She took an interest in her community and looked after everyone with genuine concern, even going as far to remember the birthdays and anniversaries of her friends and neighbors. Whether she liked you or not, you always knew where you stood with her. Gayle’s honest heart and her gentle soul will always be remembered, and she will truly be missed beyond measure.
Gayle is survived by her brother, Harold Huntley, Jr.; brother-in-law, Rodney Macri; two nieces; her Standish Road family; and her beloved fur baby, Grocki. In addition to her parents, Gayle was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Millard (2020) and her sister, Janice Macri (2013).
