George Raymond Bucko, 80 of Lake Hayward, East Haddam, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born February 26, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA; he was a son of the late Andrew and Helen (Dzara) Bucko. In 1959 George enlisted in the United States Navy. He served our nation for 22 years until his retirement in 1981. Following his Navy career, he worked at Electric Boat as an engineer until his retirement in 2001. George was a devout and loving man who was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church in Oakdale. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and would also spiritually comfort residents of Harrington Court as a Eucharistic Minister. His charitable works included volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and delivering food to those in need at St Vincent de Paul Place in Norwich. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet (Pawlowski) Bucko of Lake Hayward, East Haddam; his daughters Nancy (James) Chamberlin of Marco Island, FL, and Bonnie (Mark) Tomick of Lebanon; son Aaron (Kim) Bucko of East Lyme, his siblings Andrew (Linda) Bucko of Pittsburgh, PA, Ray Bucko of Hazlet, NJ, Gerard (Nancy) Bucko of Harrisburg, PA, Helen Bucko of Pittsburgh, PA, and James Bucko of Pittsburgh, PA; his 8 grandchildren Hunter, Anna, Garrett, Amanda, Avery, Kaleb, Jack and Evan; and numerous other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sister-in-law Maureen Bucko. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester. A funeral mass will be held the following morning on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10 am at St. Andrew Church, 128 Norwich Ave. Colchester. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 10 AM, directly at the State Veterans Cemetery on Bow Lane in Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made in George’s memory to the Gary Sinise Foundation, Brain Trauma Foundation and/or Habitat for Humanity.
