George A. Ziegra, of Salem, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023. He was 83 Years old. George was born August 30, 1940, and son of the late Albert and Ruth (Davis) Ziegra. He lived in Dexter, ME with is late brother Richard Ziegra and moved to Andover, MA. George graduated from Andover High School and received a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. That same year he began his career with General Dynamics, Electric Boat and retired after 40 years.

George married Bobbie Morrell on November 9, 1968, and the couple settled in Salem, CT where they made their home and raised their family. He will always be remembered with love by all who knew him, especially his children and their spouses, Jane and Vincent Martiny of Tewksbury, MA, Amy and Glenn Gray of New London, CT, Allan Ziegra of Old Lyme, CT; granddaughter Siena Martiny and caregiver, Lucas; along with a host of extended family members and friends.

George lived in Salem for 46 years and was dedicated to service in the local community. He was intelligent, had an amazing work ethic, and was always willing to lead efforts to support Salems’ residents and beyond. He was recognized as one of Salem’s first Unsung Heroes and was a longtime member and Treasurer of the Salem Lions Club. He also served as Chairman of the Inland Wetlands and Conservation Commissions, and President of the Friends of the Library and Salem Historical Society. George had a lifetime commitment to the Boy Scouts of America as an Eagle Scout, Scoutmaster, and District Chairman in Norwich, CT.

Calling hours will be held at Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester on December 19, from 11 am -1 pm followed by a graveside service at the Salem Green Cemetery in Salem, CT.
