Glen Rexford Weeks II

Glen Rexford Weeks II, passed away into the loving arms of Christ the Lord, at home in West Falls NY on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. He was 88 years old. Born on November 9, 1932 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Glen R. Weeks and Genevieve M. (Oehler) Weeks Schintzius. He met his beloved wife Barbara Windt on the second day of Freshmen orientation at St. Lawrence University. The couple wed on December 21, 1954 and began a journey and an adventure that spanned 66 years. They filled those years with a fierce devotion to one another and to the life they made. With his own hands and ingenuity, Glen built the home where they raised their eight children and countless other kids who were always welcome and made to feel at home. Glen was a man of strong faith and love of God. He and Barbara raised their children attending St. George’s R.C. Church in West Falls. For many years, Glen served as the Vicar General for the Franciscan Order of the Divine Compassion, where he worked with Priests, Monks and lay people who spread the loving message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Most recently, he was a founding member and organizer of St. Luke’s Anglican Chapel in East Aurora, where he served in many capacities. Glen was an ardent patriot and proud veteran, having served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War Era and in the Army Reserves for eight years following. He is currently a member of the American Legion post 362, East Aurora. Beginning from his time in the military, Glen trained countless people in the skill of firearm safety and marksmanship. As a member of the East Aurora Fish and Game Club and the West Falls Conservation Society, Glen was afforded the means to teach others from the skills he developed, as well as passing on his passion to defend the 2nd amendment. Glen retired in 1995 from Alden Central High School after a 37-year career teaching English to the students there, and where he also coached the Girls track and field, cross-country, and rifle teams, and directed many of the school plays. Glen was a man with many skills and talents, all of which were self-taught, mostly through reading. He shared his talents with his children and friends, each to their own liking and interests. Some of the ways he was involved and actively participated in every endeavor he undertook was through leadership in both Boy and Girl Scouts, the Buffalo Mountaineers; guitar playing and choir singing (which he taught his children to do in four-part harmony), playing the bag pipes with the Gordon Highlanders Band, gunsmithing, knife making, survival training and much more. Glen was a voracious reader whose love of books allowed him to expand his knowledge in countless areas of life, philosophy, theology, skill sets and entertainment. Glen worked diligently to save the West Falls Library so that others would have the same opportunity and access to books, where he also served on the Board of Directors. Glen had a love of nature and the outdoors which he enjoyed with family and friends through camping, canoeing, rock and mountain climbing, hunting trips and family vacations to his cabin in the woods at Stillwater in upstate NY. Most importantly, Glen (also known as Rex) will be remembered as a loving family man who was fiercely devoted to God, community and country.  His loss will be mourned by many, but the burden of grief will be most keenly felt to those closest including his loving wife, Barbara; eight children and their spouses, Gretchen (Vincent) Brough, Peg Weeks (Mark Gentry), Pat (Sean) McCarthy, Betsy Gorsky, Glen “Butch” (Cindy) Weeks, Jeanne Weeks, Louise Bush, Susan (Jobie) Ramsey; 17 grandchildren, Heather, Andrea, Sara, Eric, Genevieve, Faith, Erica, Donny, Chase, Billy, Kaitlyn, Ricky, Jeff, Nate, Mickey, Casey, Ryan; 9 great grandchildren, Rosie, Alana, Isabelle, Bailey, Seraphina, Andaline, Domenic, Ian, Nina; friends at Arthur’s Hardware Store in Orchard Park, Tim Horton’s in East Aurora; his church family at St. Luke’s and a host of other extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Comfort Funeral Home, 6469 Olean Rd. S. Wales, utilizing face covering and social distancing with calling hours on Friday, Feb. 26th from 3 – 6 pm.
