Herman "Hy" Fleishman, 92, of Lake Wales, Florida, formerly of Colchester Connecticut, passed away on April 1, 2020. Born November 18, 1927 in Manhattan, New York, he was the son of the late David and Molly (Zamoskiewicz) Fleishman. Herman proudly served our nation during World War II by enlisting in the Navy. After discharge he married Dorothy (Abramson) Fleishman. He attended City College of New York and the Cartoonist and Illustrators School of Art in Manhattan and became an accomplished Comic Book artist. He moved to Connecticut in 1964 where he opened the Howdy Beef Burger restaurant in East Hartford. After the death of his first wife he married Mary (Drago) Fleishman in 1976 and opened The Dandy Lion restaurants in West Hartford and East Granby and Fleishman's Luncheonette in West Hartford. Mary passed away in 2011 after 36 years of marriage. He will be forever loved and remembered by his longtime partner and fiancé Janice Sheldon of Florida and Connecticut, his daughters Roberta and husband Michael Smith, Judith Gimmartino and partner Robert Wages, Nancy and husband Frank Puglisi, and son David Fleishman and wife Debra Gruber, his 2 step children Peter and wife Mary Di Pietro, and Marybeth and husband Marc Sanville, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous extended family and friends.
