Jack Hewes, of Colchester, passed away on November 17, 2023 at Chest Elm Nursing and Rehab Center in Moodus where he had recently been residing. He was 86 years old. Jack was born in Bangor Maine on November 12, 1937, the son of the late Lewis and Lucile (Dolley) Hewes. After High School, Jack attended the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. He graduated with the class of 1960. He then served proudly in the US Coast until 1962. Jack married his beloved wife Lucille Hollister and the couple settled in Colchester where they made their home. When his sons were growing up, Jack served as a Scout Master for their troop. Jack retired several years ago after a long and successful career as an engineer for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford. He then went on to work at Foxwoods Casino for over fifteen years. He will be remembered fondly as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, especially his loving wife, Lucille; children and their spouses, Scott (Denise) Stedman, Bruce (Diane) Hewes, Lewis Hewes, Joshua Hewes; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Freeland. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3rd from 1 - 3 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 4th at 11 AM, at the Linwood Cemetery, Linwood Ave., (off Rte. 16), Colchester with full military honors.
