James Franklin Dwyer Obituary

James “Jim” Franklin Dwyer 77, of Marlborough, CT passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, CT. Born May 25, 1947 in Manchester, CT; he was the son of the late Edwin and Margaret (O’Connel) Dwyer. Jim enlisted in the United States Army shortly after graduating high school in 1967. He honorably served our nation by completing two tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded three bronze stars for his actions while deployed. After being honorably discharged he spent time living with friends on cape cod and exploring America. He traveled across the country finding adventure and once in a lifetime experiences that to this day may still be shrouded in mystery, however the two most notable ones that he disclosed were attending Wood Stock, and meeting his wife Janet. The couple married in 1978 and shared many happy years of marriage together until she predeceased him in 2006. Jim also proudly Served as Vice Commander for many years at the American Legion Post 197 in Marlborough. From an early age Jim fostered a great love for sports, beginning in prep school where he was a star athlete and captain of the basketball team. His passion for sports led him to become an avid Red Sox fan and lifelong lover of pool and poker. He is survived by his daughter Meghan Dwyer; his granddaughter Lilly Elizabeth Dwyer-Fowler; his sister Janet Ferber; and numerous other extended family and friends. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 5 to 7 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester, CT. Followed by a 7 PM chapel service at the funeral home. A graveside service will take place the following day, Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11 AM directly at the Marlboro Cemetery on E Hampton Rd in Marlborough, CT.
