Jean-Paul Gilbert, 94, of Colchester, passed away on the morning of Friday, September 24, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born June 14, 1927 in Saint-Ludger, Québec, Canada; he was a son of the late Odilon and Cecile (Doyon) Gilbert. Jean-Paul worked for many years as a lumberjack, and worked as a drywall installer until his retirement at the age of 87. In 1953 he married his wife Marie Hamel, the couple settled in Connecticut, where they raised their family. He was a man of considerable faith; Jean-Paul and Marie have been devoted communicants of St. Andrew Church in Colchester for many years. He will always be remembered as a loving father, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend. He will be forever loved and remembered by his wife of 68 years, Marie Gilbert; children Lise (Wayne) Silvernail, Andre (Glorida) Gilbert, and Nicole (Kevin) Gilbert-O’Brien; grandchildren Jaime and Jamye Lynn Gilbert, Derek and Jennifer Dube, Justin and Carrie Gilbert, Jeffrey and Melissa Batulevitz, Jonathan and Ashley Shelden, Melanie Silvernail and Michael Becker; great grandchildren Madysen Dean, Bailey Gilbert, Luke Gilbert, Tommy Keltonic, Payton Shelden, Greyson Dube, Rylee Gilbert, Everleigh Dube, Miles Gilbert, and Noah Batulevitz; numerous siblings, nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester, CT 06415. A funeral mass will be held the following morning, Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 11 AM, directly at the St. Andrew Church 128 Norwich Ave, Colchester, CT.
