Jeanne Marie Cantone, age 88, passed away in the arms of the Lord on Feb 12, 2020. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Nov 19, 1931 in Plainville CT. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Marie (O'Brien) Barrows. As Jeanne grew up, she loved going to the movies. She was drawn to the theater, taking part and starring in all of her high school plays. After high school, Jeanne went on to further her studies in theater at The Randall School .Jeanne and her friends were sitting on a blanket at Sound View Beach in Old Lyme, when a charming city kid named Frank crashed their party. After a few dates, Frank told Jeanne he prayed and asked God for help and God sent him her. Jeanne married her beloved Frank on January 28, 1956 at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Plainville. The couple made their home and raised their kids in Salem. Family vacations and enjoyment often times took place on their sailboat where Jeanne loved being the First Mate. They enjoyed sailing to Block Island, Napatree Point and Nantucket. But their favorite spot seemed to be just dropping anchor in the River in Mystic. They shared 45 years of marriage before Frank predeceased her on August 27, 2001. Jeanne was a devout Catholic. She shared her faith with many others working in several ministries at St. Andrews in Colchester, where she was a communicant for over 50 years. Even though Jeanne grew up an only child, God gave her a large, supportive, happy family with the St. Andrew’s community. Some of Jeanne's ministries included Marriage Encounter, ACTS retreats, LifeTeen and rosary groups. Jeanne loved to read. She had an extensive library of mystery novels. She will be remembered fondly by her family as a wise woman with a stubborn, spunky character, who let them know often that she was "nobody's fool", but also showered them with love as she lived her life as a shining example of faith and devotion. Jeanne will be sadly missed and remembered by her children Kate Croxton and her husband Ron of Niantic, Nancy Mattson and husband Jeff of Colchester; nine grandchildren Jessica, Dylan (Rhainne), Maggie (Mike) Angela (Christie) MaryKate, John, Alex, Oliva, Sam; two great-grandchildren Bella, Jamison; and many numerous and extended family and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Morgan and Brian Cantone. Calling hours will be held at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester on Monday February 17th from 4-6 PM and again on Tuesday morning from 9:30-10 AM. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM at St. Andrew Church in Colchester, followed by burial in New St. Andrew Cemetery.
